Special Rules for Digital Cameras
Last
modified: Mar 19, 2010
In 2010 the LOE/1000 Rally
will allow riders to use Digital Cameras for photo bonus pictures.
1. The basic rule is that it is up to the rider to be able to
display the image to the scorer.
2. We will accept either Polaroid or digital images.
3. Digital images must be stored on the
camera's
removable media. (i.e., no digital cameras without
removable
storage for images)
and must be in JPG format.
4. At the beginning of the rally, the media shall contain no photos.
5. At the scoring table, the media shall not contain any photos other
than bonus photos.
6. Multiple photos of bonuses are allowed.
7. No modifications of the original images or image data is allowed.
8. The original media will be used at the scoring table and shall be RETAINED by the Rally.
9. For convenience and efficiency, several of the scorers will have
laptops equipped with card readers that can read about 25 different
formats. During scoring, we will normally plug the rider's media
into the reader and display the images on the scorer's laptop. If
the scorer is unable to
display the images or if the rider elects not to take advantage of the
scorer's
reader and laptop, it shall be the responsibility of the rider to
display
the images to the scorer at anappropriate size.
Note: The Rallymasters note that 2008 is the first year
that such rallies as the LOE/1000 have allowed digital photography for
photo bonuses. Rules such as these may be subject to change in
the future for efficiency, clarity, and fairness. In that regard
rider feedback is welcomed as a part of the process of improvement.
It should be noted that Rule No.
8 is necessary for purposes of future auditing of results as for past
rallies.
Digital media prices have plunged to the point that each digital
photo
is less expensive than a Polaroid print as long as the rider takes care
not
to use media of too large a size. We might suggest that each
rider
obtain an inexpensive 256 Mbyte media card and mark it with
2010LOE and their 3 digit rider number.
