The 2009 Land of Enchantment 1000

Repeat Offenders

Official Rally Pack                                        October 2-4, 2009

Welcome
Thank you for deciding to see so much of New Mexico from your saddle.  This is the tenth year ever for such a rally in the State of New Mexico and we hope to provide all of you with an interesting and fun ride.  That and assuring that it is a safe ride are our major objectives.

The Riding Rules

  1.   Nobody said this was going to be easy,  but if it was,  everybody would be doing it!   Properly prepared,  only you can make it hard.

  2.   No drugs or alcohol.

  3.  All riders are obligated to stop and  provide emergency assistance to anyone in need of it,  rally participant or not.  Failure to do so will be grounds for disqualification.  Time spent for such aide will not penalize you in any way if it is somehow documented.   Emergencies may vary,  helping a competitor who has run out of gas is not generally an emergency,   but may be deemed so in the middle of the desert at 2:00 PM or on a lonely mountain road at 3:00 AM.

   4.  Speeding,  reckless endangerment,  or other such traffic transgressions cannot be tolerated by any safely run rally and may be cause for disqualification.   However,  speeding law enforcement varies by jurisdiction,  circumstance, and even luck.   Therefore,  you must reveal any  citation to the RallyMaster(s) for their "consideration."   If such citation is discovered elsewise,  you may be subject to disqualification,  even retroactively!

 5. If you find that you cannot finish on time call:
        505-271-2008  RallyMaster (home)
  or  505-280-4884  cell phone
and leave a message with your name and LOE/1000 Rally Number.  Other numbers may be supplied with further rally instructions at the Rider’s Meeting on Friday night.

Scoring
This rally will include photo bonuses as often found in other similar rallies.   At some bonus sites you may be required to take a picture of your rally towel (supplied by the RallyMasters)  on or near a particular identifiable item.   The RallyMasters and scoring staff may require Polaroid photos (prints) for these bonus pictures.  (There is a Target across the street from the Rally Motel where film and cameras are available.)  Other bonuses may require obtaining time/date stamped receipts showing the location,  or  simply recording information as instructed.   For the latter you should record:
        The Bonus/Question Number
The Date and Time of Day  (AM or PM)
        Your Odometer Reading
        The Correct  Information or  Answer

SS1K
If you expect to apply for the IBA's SaddleSore 1000 certificate the LOE/1000 Rally will  forward a list of qualifiers directly to the IBA.  You may then apply to the IBA  through their normal process.   Just mention that you did the ride during the LOE/1000 Rally and you will not need to submit fuel receipts,  a gas log, or a map;  we have verified your mileage and route.

Advice
  Fuel Management:
Gas up in Socorro if you have limited range and plan to do the 80-100 mile round trip to the Trinity Site.  Gas station closures have caused some distances between stations to increase.  Two such highway segments may possibly exceed your bike's fuel range.

  Rest Bonus:
The LOE/1000 Rally may include a Rest Bonus.   All riders are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity,  as well as to rest at other times, as needed.

Amenities
Your room rate at Quality Inn & Suites includes a hot  breakfast  on the premises.  If you have some luggage with no place to store it over Saturday night we may accommodate it in the RallyMaster's Suite.

Weather
The weather is guaranteed to be really nice,  but then,   I'm  staying at home.  You, however,  will be riding about 1000 miles, through the night, up mountains and across deserts.   Bring some sunscreen, raingear, and electrically heated clothing if possible.
